Governor Pen Portraits

Sara Venn (Chair of Governors) 

After studying with the Open University, I gained a BA Hons degree in Psychology in 2003 with a special interest in Child Development.  I then completed my PGCE through the Graduate Teacher Programme with the University of Wolverhampton.  Throughout my PGCE year, I was working as a student teacher at the Bridge School and I was offered full time employment at the Bridge in my final term and began teaching in September 2006 .  During my time with the Bridge, I became Head of Primary and a Specialist Leader of Education.  I am now retired but re-employed and still work for one or two days a month for the school.  I am honoured to be able to continue my involvement with the Bridge working as a Governor to support the school in maintaining the high standards it sets for its pupils and their parents/carers. 

Rachael Stretch (Vice-Chair of Govenors) 

 

I am currently the Vice-Chair and I have been a parent governor at The Bridge School since 2014 when my son joined the school.

He is currently in Y10.  I am on the Health and Safety and the Curriculum and Standard committees.  I work as a law lecturer specialising in Family Law and Equity.

Chris Robson

I trained as a teacher at St. Matthias College, Bristol gaining a B.Ed degree in 1976.   I taught drama and English in mainstream secondary schools in Sandwell for twenty years and also studied for further qualifications in working with children and young people with special educational needs.   I began work at the Bridge School in 1996 where I loved working with post 16 pupils who had severe/complex learning needs.  I retired in 2013.

Clare Hollinshead

I'm delighted to join the governing body as a parent governor. My son started at The Bridge School in reception in 2023 and has come on in leaps and bounds since. I have previously worked at the school as a teaching assistant and have a passion for communication. I qualified as a social worker in 2023 and am fortunate to now work within the Preparing for Adulthood Team at Shropshire Council, working with a range of wonderful young people with learning disabilities and/or autism. 

Carl Bailey

I’m excited to be joining The Bridge School Governors as a Parent Governor. My son started at the school in 2023, and I have been incredibly impressed with the care he has received and the progress he is making. 
About me: I’m the Service Delivery Manager for a local children and young people’s charity, Challenging Perceptions. Supporting CYP with Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism.
Outside of work I’m a governor for Midlands Partnership Foundation NHS Trust, Co-chair and CYP lead for Telford Mental Health Forum and Chair of Directors at Park Lane Centre.
I also sit on West Mercia Police advisory groups and SaTH hospital panels amongst other things. I hope to bring all this experience to the Governing board.

Terry Hewitt

I am delighted to introduce myself as a new school governor. I have been married to my wife Doreen for 51 years and a proud parents of 4 grown up boys. As a resident of the local area since 2015, I am committed to making a positive impact on the community, and I am excited to take on this new role.

My background is in Engineering I have been Managing Director of my company for 20 years, during which time I have been tasked with developing marketing and communications strategies to promote the company. Having recently retired handing the rains over to my youngest son. I believe I can bring a unique perspective to the role of school governor. I am passionate about education as a school governor I will be committed to supporting the school leadership team in delivering positive outcomes for the children, parents, and staff. I am confident that my life and professional skills will add value to the school community, and I am committed to driving the school towards its targets.

Beccy Holder

I am joining the governing body as a teacher governor. I studied at Wolverhampton University and my degree is in Early Childhood Studies and Education Studies. I started my journey with the Bridge as a Teaching assistant and found my passion here where I later took on my PGCE and started my teaching career in 2014. I have now worked at the Bridge for the past 14 years as a whole and have worked across many different key stages. I am currently based at the offsite classroom at Wrockwardine Wood and manage this alongside the support of our senior management team. I am very passionate about our school, and I am committed to supporting the pupils and families across their journey with us.

Nicola Davis

I am currently the Co-Head Teacher at The Bridge School and am also studying for my NPQH. I have 36 years' experience as a teacher and senior manager in the area of Special Educational Needs in a range of schools and Local Authorities across the country. My Honours degree was in Primary Education and Special Education focussing on SLD/PMLD and I also have a Masters Degree in Education (Autism). I strongly believe in the values and vision of our school and my role as a Governor ensures that as a school, we achieve the highest standards for all our pupils enabling them to reach their maximum potential. The experience of being the West Midlands Lead for Whole School SEND in the past; a current trainer for the National Professional Qualification for SEN across the West Midlands and a SEND Reviewer for STSA ensures that I stay aware of local and national work that may benefit our school and inform the Governing Body.

Emily Tracey

I am currently the Co-Head Teacher at The Bridge School alongside my Deputy Head role and Lead DSL. I have worked at The Bridge School for the past 15 years in varying roles which have all been equally rewarding. I hold a PGCE in Primary Education and have continued to access professional development opportunities such as gaining qualifications to support my role as a leader (NPQSL) and supporting the wellbeing of pupils and staff at school (Senior Mental Health Lead). I am currently completing my NPQH. I am highly committed to The Bridge School and fully support the school ethos and values believing that every moment does matter. It is an honour to work with pupils, their families and our staff team on a daily basis.

 Associate Governors

Ant Chester-McCabe

I have been a Detective within the Vulnerable Adult/Public Protection Unit of West Mercia Police. I have worked closely with the Adult Protection arrangements for both Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin Local Authorities. My role is to provide specialist investigative support to vulnerable victims of crime, including adults with learning disabilities both in supported living and living independently in the community. I worked within a small but dedicated team of experienced and specifically trained officers. I have had a long association with the Bridge School dating back to my childhood and have many fond memories of past students, some of whom I still see within the community. I have two children who have led me into coaching rugby at Telford Hornets, which is something I hadn’t envisaged doing, before they were born! I am very proud to be associated with the talented and passionate staff at the Bridge School and such wonderful pupils.

Liz Hyner

I am an Associate Governor at The Bridge. My son George had four very happy years at The Bridge and he continues to talk about the people that he built special relationships with. My professional background is in teaching, dietetics, autism and now school management support.  I have had connections in various ways with a number of special schools. As a governor my role is to ensure that The Bridge continues to maintain the established positive ethos and high quality education by supporting and challenging the senior leadership team.  I am passionate about all working together to provide the best outcomes for our pupils and their families.
